Race sponsored! - 28 BELOW- Spearfish South Dakota
January 25, 2018
Put this one on the calendar, It should be a fun!
The 28 Below Fatbike race is hosted out of Spearfish Canyon Lodge in the heart of the Black Hills, South Dakota, and is the only race currently permitted to take place on the groomed snowmobile trails. It is a challenging 50k lolly-pop loop with around 2,800 ft of climbing. There is one checkpoint at mile 18, where riders head into Wyoming and climb up to the Cement Ridge Fire lookout. Here riders will be provided with libations and homemade Chicken Noodle Soup and treats! Although the race takes place in mid March, the snow conditions tend to hold in the high country of the hills.
This course will test your will and winter riding skill. It is challenging, and very remote, so we ask that you come prepared, with some experience fatbiking in winter conditions. To make it fun for everyone, each year we have an on course Easter Egg hunt, where riders can accumulate eggs found on course, and turn them in for prizes after their ride! The Golden Egg, which is always hid somewhere around the checkpoint at Cement Ridge Fire Lookout, always has the best prize in it! Our after party consists of live music, a free lunch and all the Crow Peak beers a rider can drink, courtesy of Crow Peak Brewery! We give a cash prize to the top 3 men and women overall, as well as a custom trophy to the top 3 in each class. And as a special prize for the fastest man and woman of the day, we will be giving away a Power Meter and Fatback bike frame/fork or Gear, thanks to our sponsors at Fatback Bikes and Quarq. Come join us for the 5th Annual 28 Below on March 17th 2018!
Hopefully we will see you out there!
